History

Orghana was born to the Bolir tribe, a Xaelic tribe of the Azim Steppes. Her father and mother are leaders of one branch of the Bolir, and they raised her very traditionally in their ways. She has one brother and four sisters, and is the youngest of them all. As such, she had to very quickly learn to defend herself, since Xaela children can be quite rambunctious. Wrestling was a common activity amongst her siblings and Orghana happily participated, becoming quite competitive. This physical competitiveness was never vicious in her family; if anything, it was affectionate.

The Bolir tribe is a relatively minor tribe on the Steppes, and they make their living by creating fuel bricks to sell to the other tribes from animal wastes collected from the grasslands. This may seem less than glamorous, but their work is appreciated by all who wish to keep their cooking fires burning when the cold night descends. Orghana has been trained in all aspects of this trade. Additionally, she has also functioned as shepherd to the small herd of sheep her family owns. When she came to Eorzea, she brought a small lamb with her as a pet, which she has named Lambchop.

Orghana was raised in the faith of the Dusk Mother, and is a devoted believer. It was most likely the ecstatic songs and dances of her religion that first interested Orghana in learning to sing and dance herself. She has also learned to play the morin khuur, though she is by no means a master. Orghana loves to perform, and while it is not exactly frowned upon, her family considers it something to be done only when all other work for the day has been accomplished.

When Orghana was 16, she undertook Bardam's Mettle so that she might participate in the Naadam on behalf of the Bolir. She was successful in this, and although the Bolir are never in serious contention to win through at the Naadam, she considers it an honor to represent them, and is proud of her accomplishment.

Orghana's parents sent her to schooling offered in Reunion by a Hingan missionary when she was young, and she was an apt pupil. They have sent her to Eorzea to continue her studies as well as to conduct family business--specifically, she was supposed to look into possible trade for the Bolir, as her father has become concerned that increased modernization may someday render the Bolir's current occupation unnecessary. Though the Xaela are in general resistant to change, her father thinks very far ahead. Orghana, as the youngest child and 5th daughter, was the easiest to spare for such an activity. Orghana is quite aware of this. She views it somewhat pragmatically, whereas many would have hurt feelings in the same circumstances.
